FORTUNE 2017 Forums, Summits, and Brainstorm Sessions

Fortune is one of the world’s leading business magazines, one that plays a critical role in documenting, analyzing, and interpreting the ever-changing world of business and economics. The magazine distinguishes itself by presenting audiences with in-depth feature articles and compiling lists of leading companies and business people. Fortune holds dozens of conferences and events every year, engaging with socially relevant topics and fostering serious discussion in an effort to produce appropriate, sustainable solutions.

History

Fortune was founded by Henry Luce in 1929, just as the Great Depression seized a grip on American business. Luce, one of the most influential businessmen of his day, also founded Time, Life, and Sports Illustrated. While most business publications at the time were little more than numbers and statistics printed in black and white, Fortune boasted an attractive design, with a piece of art on the cover and striking photography. During such a tumultuous time in US history, Fortune became known for its social conscience and highly capable team of writers, who established the broad scope of the magazine and the depth with which topics were examined. From its launch in 1930 until 1978, Fortune was published monthly. It was published every two weeks until 2009, when the magazine began publishing every three weeks.

In recent years, the company has become widely known for its lists, which represent the leading companies and people in business. Prominent among these are the Fortune 500, Most Powerful Women, and 40 under 40. Fortune has also expanded its focus, exploring every dimension of business and economics in the modern world. This has led to the addition of graphs, charts, and tables, as well as articles that concentrate on topics such as executive life, industry regulation, education, and wealth disparity. Fortune has also taken an active role in bettering the business community, organizing conferences and events on critical, relevant topics. Some of Fortune’s most exciting, successful, and original events include: The CEO Initiative, the Most Powerful Women Summit, and Brainstorm TECH International.

The CEO Initiative

This initiative, the product of a partnership between Fortune and Time, will be convening for the first time on September 25, 2017. Their slogan, “doing well by doing good,” exemplifies the initiative’s goal to integrate major social issues into their business strategies. Discussion will center around a company’s role in the modern world and the responsibility businesses have to consumers and various communities. CEOs from leading companies around the world, including many from Fortune’s “Change the world” list, will come together to exchange ideas, techniques, and solutions relating to the intersection of social and economic impact.

Most Powerful Women Summit

From October 9-11, Fortune will host the 2017 Fortune MPW Summit in Washington, DC. Fortune MPW began in 1999 as a list and has evolved into one of the preeminent platforms for women to discuss women’s issues in every vein of society. Leading women from business, government, education, the arts, and other critical areas will be present, and will participate in one-on-one interviews, panel discussions, interactive breakout sessions, and networking. A similar event, the Fortune MPW Next Gen Summit, will be held for the fourth time on November 13-14 of this year. Wide-ranging conversation will be had between executives, entrepreneurs, and other innovators who are having a dramatic effect on their respective industry.

Brainstorm TECH International

This December, Fortune will introduce a new conference in Guangzhou, China. This event combines elements of the Fortune Global Forum and the Brainstorm TECH Conference in an effort to explore the ways in which the tech industry in China is currently evolving. Guangzhou, an emerging center of tech innovation, is an ideal location for this year’s event, which will feature leaders in Chinese business, government, and other areas, as well as CEOs from some of the world’s biggest companies. Topics of discussion will include artificial intelligence, social media, fintech, biotech, and virtual reality.
