​Chien-Chi Huang

Chien-Chi Huang is the founder of Asian Breast Cancer Project and is presently the Executive Director of Asian Women for Health. A skilled and passionate community advocate, Huang was the Asian Community Program Manager at the Massachusetts Council on Compulsive Gambling from 2006 to 2011 and she spearheaded several new health initiatives addressing the unique issues and challenges facing the Asian American community.

These initiatives included Asian American Problem Gambling Outreach efforts, Asian American Women’s Mental Health Symposium (now AAPI Mental Health Forum), Asian American Mental Health Forum, and Immigrants and Refugees Mental Health Network. A deft community organizer and trainer, Huang has provided capacity building, technical guidance and network enhancement to community-based organizations and providers serving Asian Americans in the Commonwealth.

She has participated in several CBPR (Community-Based Participatory Research) trainings and received grants from several organizations such as the Institute for Community Health Program Planning at Dana Farber, the Saffron Circle, the American Psychological Association, Massachusetts Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the Lenny Zakim Fund, Clipper Ship Foundation, Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation, Center for Community Health and Healthy Equity, and Tufts Community Research Center.

Both mainstream and Asian media outlets have featured Huang’s efforts and highlighted her dedication to reducing health disparities related to gambling addiction, mental health and breast cancer.

She is the first survivor public board member for ONCC (Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation). In addition, Huang served on the following committees: the Boston Alliance for Community Health/BACH Steering Committee, the Advisory Committee on Breast Cancer in Young Women of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the George Washington University (GW) Advisory Board for the Oncology Community of Practice: Generation and Translation of Evidence project, the National Advisory Panel on Addressing Disparities for Disease PCORI (Patient-Centered Outcome Research Institute), the National Advisory Council for Asian & Pacific Islander National Cancer Survivors Network, the Dana Farber Community Benefits External Advisory Committee, the Steering committee for the AIM for Equity Network and the Somerville Commission for Women. Huang participates fully in the Disparities & Health Equity Workgroup of Massachusetts Comprehensive Cancer Prevention & Control Program, serves as the co-chairs for the American Heart Association’s North East Health Equity Consortium/NHEC, and is currently on the stakeholder expert panel of Tufts Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), Liver Cancer Advisory Committee, BCBSMA Foundation Structural Racism and Racial Inequities in Health Advisory Group, and a trustee for the MGH CARE Research Center.

Huang is the recipient for the Cheryl Kramer Passion Award in 2011, the Trail Blazer award in 2012, the Janice McGrath Survivor of the Year Award in 2013, the honoree of the one hundred by Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center in 2014, and GK 50, the most influential people of color in Life Science and Healthcare in 2017, the Community Hero Award by ABCD in 2018, and the Laurel of Community Service award by the Cancer Prevention Foundation in 2019.

Under her leadership, Asian Women for Health is among one of the 6 recipients for the Peter Lee Healthy Communities Awards in 2013, with 12 nominations from partners and allies at the state-wide Ounce of Prevention Conference.

Huang is a breast cancer survivor and proud patient advocate. She came as an international student from Taiwan in 1989 and was the VP for the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce New England.
