Adam Paul Susaneck is an acclaimed architect researching how transportation and housing policy have been used as an instrument of physical division within urban areas. His ongoing project, Segregation by Design, aims to catalog the destruction caused by mid-century urban renewal and highway projects. As an acclaimed architect, New York Times author, and staunch advocate for social justice, Susaneck exposes the intentional disenfranchisement of communities of color through architecture and infrastructure projects, perpetuating segregation by design.
Susaneck has written for The New York Times advocating for an updated approach to transportation policy and pedestrian safety, and his work has been featured in The Guardian, Fast Company, The Architect’s Newspaper, and other notable publications. He earned his Master of Architecture from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation and is pursuing his PhD in urban planning at the Delft Institute of Technology in the Netherlands, where he is focused on developing solutions to reconnect communities divided by highway infrastructure.
