Adele Faber

International acclaimed expert on communication between adults and children, Adele Faber, along with her co-author, Elaine Mazlish, has produced a body of work that has won the gratitude of parents and the enthusiastic praise of the professional community. Her first book, Liberated Parents/Liberated Children, received the Christopher Award for "literary achievement affirming the highest values of the human spirit." Her subsequent books, among them, How to Talk So Kids Will Listen, Listen So Kids Will Talk, and Siblings Without Rivalry (#1 on the New York Times bestseller list), have passed the three million mark and have been translated into over twenty languages.

Her group workshop programs and videos produced by PBS are currently being used by thousands of groups around the world to improve communication with children. Her most recent book, How to Talk So Kids Can Learn-At Home and In School, was cited by Child Magazine as the "best book of the year for excellence in family issues in education."

Faber has studied with the late child psychologist, Dr. Haim Ginott, and was a former member of the faculty of the New School for Social Research in New York and the Family Life Institute of Long Island University.

Faber and Mazlish offer skills based on the ideas of Rogers and Ginott, their own experience as parents, and what they have learned from parents throughout the country. Their method is supportive, friendly, and best of all, effective. It offers innovative ways to solve such common problems as: how to listen to -- and understand -- your child's concerns , how to have cooperation in your family -- without nagging, how you and your child can deal with feelings, how to find alternatives to punishment, and how to help your child attain a positive self-image.

Since the publication of Liberated Parents/Liberated Children, Faber has traveled across the country presenting workshops to parents, teachers and mental health professionals. The work she did was documented on television in a series shown on CBS. Faber has also appeared on every major talk show from "Good Morning America" to "Oprah."
