Adrian James

Adrian co-founded Omada Health, a digital health company re-imagining how the world reverses preventable, chronic disease through a new category of medicine called digital therapeutics.

Prior to Omada, Adrian led the Medical Products domain for IDEO’s Health and Wellness Practice in the Bay Area, where he focused on business development and client relationships with organizations ranging from medical startups to Fortune 500 pharmaceutical companies. During his decade tenure at IDEO, he contributed design expertise and project leadership to a broad range of products, including heart valve installation tools, hospital equipment, vaccine delivery systems, and self-injection devices.

Before IDEO, Adrian worked at a wind power plant in Costa Rica, installing turbine blades and designing test equipment for hydraulic pitch actuators. His fascination with prototyping and mechanical design was reinforced by two years as a teaching assistant in the student machine shop at Stanford and employment at Edge Innovations, where he built animatronic swordfish for the movie "The Perfect Storm." Prior to Edge, he designed suspension systems for downhill mountain bikes at Risse Racing and fished for salmon in Prince William Sound, Alaska.

Adrian holds BS and MS degrees in mechanical engineering from Stanford University, where he specialized in medical device design and mechatronics. He maintains his relationship with his alma mater through lectures at the d.school and mentoring for classes taught in the Product Realization Lab.
