Adrienne Boissy

Adrienne Boissy, MD, MA, is the Chief Experience Officer at Cleveland Clinic, where she shapes the strategic direction of patient and employee experience across the healthcare system, including technology design, research, consulting, and innovation in experience management. She is also a staff physician at the Cleveland Clinic Mellen Center for Multiple Sclerosis and holds a secondary appointment in Bioethics. During her previous role as Chief Experience Officer, Dr. Boissy led international initiatives to enhance every aspect of a patient’s encounter with healthcare, focusing on their comfort, education, and overall well-being. She established evidence-based, relationship-centered communication training programs, training over 4,000 staff physicians and house staff, which now serve as a global standard.

Dr. Boissy previously served as the Medical Director of the Center of Excellence in Healthcare Communication at Cleveland Clinic and co-chaired the Empathy and Innovation summit, the largest independent summit on patient experience in the world. She remains active in academic publishing as Editor in Chief of the Journal of Patient Experience and actively contributes to the field through her work on ethical issues in neurological diseases. Additionally, her notable insights into patient experience measurement and healthcare empathy have been featured in her TEDxClevelandStateUniversity talk "Seeing and Being Seen: A Call For Healing", and extensive publications in respected journals.

Dr. Boissy was honored with a Sylvia Lawry Fellowship grant from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and an Arnold P. Gold Foundation grant for humanism in medicine. She also serves on the editorial board of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Momentum Magazine. Her educational background includes a master’s degree in bioethics from Case Western Reserve University, and medical training at Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, followed by a neurology residency and neuroimmunology fellowship at Cleveland Clinic. A Harvard Macy scholar, Dr. Boissy is internationally recognized for her leadership and pioneering contributions to the healthcare industry.
