Alan Faneca

Alan Faneca is a former NFL player who won the Super Bowl with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2005. Faneca, who played guard, developed epilepsy at age 15, although he was able to control it with medication and continue playing football. He was a first-round draft pick in 1998 by the Pittsburgh Steelers and played a pivotal role in the team achieving over 2,000 rushing yards in the 2000 season.

Faneca played college football at Louisiana State University, earning consensus All-America honors. Throughout the course of his NFL career, Faneca played for the Steelers, the New York Jets, and the Arizona Cardinals, starting in 201 professional football games. His impressive career culminated in nine Pro Bowl appearances, eight All-Pro selections, and one Super Bowl ring. He was named all-pro in 2002 by Sports Illustrated, the Associated Press, and Football Digest. Faneca was also inducted into the Steelers' All-Time Team during the franchise's 75th anniversary in 2007.

Since retiring from playing professionally in 2011, Faneca has focused on maintaining his health, losing over 100 pounds and participating in marathons. He continues to be an advocate for epilepsy awareness, supporting not just himself and his daughter, who also has the condition, but others facing similar challenges. In 2021, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
