Alessandra (Ale) Carreon is a licensed chemical engineer and LEED accredited professional (AP) with a professional background in environmental consulting and engineering. She is an AmeriCorps Green Schools Coordinator with WARM Training Center, a sustainable community development non-profit in Detroit, Michigan, and supports sustainability initiatives at Detroit Public Schools. Ale graduated with a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering with a focus in environmental engineering from Rice University in Houston, Texas, in 2007. Ale is currently an MBA candidate at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business and is pursuing her passion for eco-preneurship and social enterprise in southeast Michigan. She is engaged in the development of a waste-to-green product startup business.Ale chaired the US Green Building Council (USGBC) Emerging Professional National Committee (EPNC) in 2012 and currently serves as EPNC past chair for 2013. She is a member of the USGBC Detroit Regional Chapter (DRC) Emerging Professionals (EP) Committee and focuses on volunteer recruitment and Detroit-based project management. Ale and the DRC EPs organized the first-ever Detroit Better Block during the 2012 Detroit Design Festival and are committed to growing Detroit's green economy through projects such as the Detroit Green Map. She is also an elected director (2011-2013) and elected Programming Chair (2013-2015) for the American Institute of Chemical Engineers’ (AIChE) national Environmental Division.Prior to moving to Michigan, Ale lived in Seattle, Washington, where she served as co-chair of the Cascadia Green Building Council’s Seattle EP Committee and chaired the Puget Sound AIChE local section. She also co-founded the Young Engineering Professionals of Puget Sound (YEPPS), an umbrella organization designed to strengthen the professional development and community impact opportunities of young professional groups across Seattle area engineering societies. During her time in Seattle, Ale also volunteered as a forest steward with Seattle Parks and Recreation and as a carbon coach to promote city climate change awareness with the City’s Office of Sustainability. Ale is active in community outreach and is inspired by work in youth development. She is a trained mentor for the Washington State Department of Social Health Services (DSHS) Juvenile Rehabilitation Administration (JRA) and was honored with the 2011 Mentor of the Year award.
