Alex Crawford

Four times winner of the Royal Television Society Journalist of the Year award, Alex Crawford is a Special Correspondent for Sky News. Based in South Africa, Crawford reports from across the continent and is deployed to big stories worldwide. Formerly stationed in Sky’s Dubai bureau, she reported on the Gulf and the Middle East, particularly during the Arab Spring uprisings in Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain, and Libya. Before her time in Dubai, she was based in India, covering significant events such as the Taliban insurgency in Pakistan and Afghanistan and the Mumbai terror attacks.

During her career, Crawford has encountered numerous dangers; she has been arrested, detained, interrogated, and has faced live bullets, tear-gassing, rubber bullets, IEDs, and mortar shells in the course of her reporting. Her fearless journalism has not only put her in the line of fire but has also been recognized with numerous accolades. In December 2010 and again in 2011, she was named Woman Journalist of the Year by Women in Film and Television. Her dynamic and critical coverage as she entered Tripoli live on air earned her the Achievement of the Year by Women in Film and Television in 2011. Additionally, in October 2011, she received the James Cameron Memorial Award for 'moral integrity and courage' in recognition of her outstanding contribution to journalism. Crawford was also appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Queen’s 2011 New Year’s Honours list for services to journalism.
