Alex Walsh

Alex Walsh is a competitive swimmer who represents the United States internationally. She is a 2020 Olympic silver medalist, a three-time world champion in 2022, and a 13-time NCAA champion for the University of Virginia (UVA). Walsh is also known for her versatility in all four strokes.

Walsh began her swimming career by setting national age group records at the age of 12 in 2014. A two-time Junior World Championships medalist, she led her high school team to multiple state and national championships. At the 2019 Pan American Games, she won three gold medals. She continued her winning streak by leading the UVA team to the NCAA Championships in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Apart from her college achievements, Walsh qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics and won a silver medal in the 200m individual medley. Her success continued as she won three gold medals at the 2022 World Championships and a silver medal at the 2023 World Championships. She then had an impressive run at the 2022 Short Course World Championships, where she won three gold medals, two silver medals, and a bronze medal.

Walsh is also known for setting records in short course (25m) events, including the 200m individual medley. At the 2022 Women's NCAA Championships, she broke the American and NCAA records in the 200 IM. For her outstanding performance, she was named Female Athlete of the Year at the 2022 Golden Goggles.

Off the swimming pool, Walsh graduated with a degree in computer science from UVA. She and her sister Gretchen made history as the first NCAA athletes -- and set of siblings -- to launch an apparel line with a major retailer following the passage of the NCAA NIL Policy in 2021.
