Alice Hasters Biography
Alice Hasters is a German journalist, author and podcaster.
As the youngest of three daughters of her black American mother and her white German father, Alice Hasters spent most of her childhood and youth in Cologne's Nippes district. The parents raised their three children according to the Buddhist faith. In her eleventh year, Hasters did a year abroad with her uncle in North Philadelphia at Central High School.
After graduating from high school, Hasters first studied at the Sport University in Cologne and later graduated from the German School of Journalism in Munich. Generally perceived as a black woman and under this self-designation, she writes and publishes in particular on Afro-German identity, racism, feminism and intersectionality. She discusses these topics in her autobiographical debut book, "What White People Don't Want to Hear About Racism, But Should Know," published in 2019.
Since 2016, Hasters has been producing and publishing the "Feuer & Brot" podcast with her friend and colleague Maximiliane Häcke. Since September 2020 she has moderated the podcast "One Hundred - Stories with Alice Hasters," which is broadcast on Deutschlandfunk Nova.
Hasters was named culture journalist of the year 2020 by medium magazine.
