Amit Bhatia

Amit Bhatia is an eminent Indian Business Leader turned Social Impact Entrepreneur, whose initiatives since 2007, including Aspire, Aspire Circle, IIC, GSG and Social Finance India, have all contributed immensely to the Indian and the global social and environmental impact movement. Bhatia became the inaugural CEO of The Global Steering Group for Impact Investment in April 2017. GSG is an independent group catalyzing impact investment and entrepreneurship to benefit people and the planet. Prior to GSG, Amit was Founding CEO of India’s Impact Investors Council from 2014 to 2016, during which time impact investments in India grew from $400 million to $1 billion annually.

Bhatia is also the Founder of Aspire, a John P. McNulty Prize winning social enterprise in Education & Training. Bhatia founded Aspire in 2007 with the goal of supplying India's economy with trained workers from rural or disadvantaged backgrounds. Since 2007, Aspire has trained over 65,000 students across 100+ institutions, 51 cities and 18 Indian states. In addition he is the Founder of Aspire Circle, which promotes social leadership and has 150 eminent Fellows.

Bhatia left a successful corporate career in 2007 to serve the social sector. His last position was CEO of WNS Knowledge Services, India’s first outsourcing company to list on the NYSE with a $1 billion IPO. His other positions include Country Manager - India for FreeMarkets Inc., an online auction pioneer in B2B procurement; and notably, Founder of the McKinsey Knowledge Centre, the consulting firm’s global research centre.

Bhatia has a Bachelor’s degree from the Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi; a Master’s degree from the Delhi School of Economics with a gold medal; and a diploma in Cost Accounting from ICMAI. He is also a Fellow at The Aspen Institute.
