Amy Dickman Biography
Zoologist Amy Dickman has worked in Africa for more than 13 years. She spent six years at the Cheetah Conservation Fund in Namibia, conducted research on human-carnivore conflict in Tanzania, and holds the Kaplan Senior Research Fellowship in Wild Cat Conservation at Oxford University. National Geographics Big Cats Initiative is supporting Amys current project, which focuses on large carnivore ecology in Tanzanias Ruaha landscape and strives to minimize human-carnivore conflict on village land adjacent to Ruaha National Park.
Her particular interest is in the maintenance of threatened wildlife populations on human-dominated land and how to resolve human-wildlife conflict. Her work focuses mainly on understanding the drivers of conflict between humans and large carnivores, and how those issues can best be addressed. She works mainly on lions, and on understanding how to ease coexistence between lions and traditional communities. She also has an interest in wider aspects of carnivore ecology and conservation.
