André De Shields Biography
André De Shields is an African-American actor, singer, director, composer, and novelist. In 2019, he was nominated for a Drama Desk Award, Drama League Award, and Tony Award for his role in Hadestown. He won an Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical for the role.
De Shields made his Broadway debut in 1973 in the show Warp!, and he also appeared in The Wiz in 1975. He has choreographed several shows and also appeared in regional productions. On TV, De Shields has appeared in Another World, Sex and the City, and Law & Order. In 2019, he began playing Hermes in Hadestown on Broadway.
