Andy Newell

Andy Newell is a three-time Olympic Cross-country skier from Shaftsbury Vermont. He was named to the US development ski team in 2002 after graduating from the Stratton Mountain School where he was coached by Sverre Caldwell. Newell was soon after named to the US National Team where he has been competing internationally on World Cups and at World Championships for the past 10 years.

In 2006 Newell arrived on the World Cup podium placing third in Changchun China being the first American Nordic skier to do so in over 23 years. Since then he has proven himself as one of the fastest and most consistent sprinters in the world placing 5th in the 2007 World Championships. Known as someone who is always a contender he has finished with a top 10 sprint ranking 6 out of the past 8 seasons placing 4th in 2010 and 5th in 2013 in overall in the Sprint Cup standings.

When not racing Andy Newell is always pushing the limits on what can be done on skis including halfpipe and big air jumps while on xc skis. When not training for the World Cup you can find him backcountry skiing, surfing, or at the local skate park.

Off the snow, Newell is most involved in environmental activism including his Athletes for Action initiative which was started in 2013. He has partnered with the organization Protect Our Winters to rally professional athletes to take a stand against climate change.
