Angela Chen is a journalist and editor. While she's interested in everything from the history of textiles to Gettier problems, her work primarily falls under the field of science and technology studies, particularly information infrastructures and issues of quantification and classification. She wants to understand the systems we use to organize and shape reality.
Currently, Chen is the ideas editor at WIRED. Previously, she was a staff reporter at The Wall Street Journal, Vox Media’s The Verge, and MIT Technology Review. Her reporting and essays have also appeared in The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Guardian, Paris Review, Chronicle of Higher Education, Lapham's Quarterly, National Geographic, and more.
During Chen's time as a science reporter at The Verge, she began a project to understand the role of sexual attraction in Western culture. The result is "Ace: What Asexuality Reveals About Desire, Society, and the Meaning of Sex," which was named one of the Best Books of 2020 by NPR, Electric Literature, and Them.
