Ann Pleshette Murphy

Since joining GMA in November 1998 over 200 “American Family” segments have aired before 5 million viewers. In 2002, two of her segments received a media award from the National Council on Family Relations and a segment on teen drivers received an award from MADD in 2003. Ms. Pleshette Murphy’s book, The 7 Stages of Motherhood: Making the Most of Your Life as a Mom was published in September by Alfred A. Knopf, Inc.From January to November 2000, she was the parenting expert on Lifetime Live, appearing weekly to discuss a wide range of child-rearing challenges. Prior to joining ABC, Ms. Pleshette Murphy was a regular guest on NBC’s Weekend Today and the parenting expert on The News at Noon (WCBS TV), where she appeared weekly from 1994 until 1999. Her other television credits include appearances on The Today Show, CBS This Morning, Regis & Kathie Lee, The Montel Williams Show, and Oprah.

A well-known magazine journalist and editor, Ms. Pleshette Murphy was Editor-in-Chief of Parents magazine from 1988 to 1998 and a Contributing Editor from 1998 to 2002. Currently, her Q&A column, “Mom Know-How,” appears bi-monthly in Family Circle.

During her 10-year tenure at Parents, Ms. Pleshette Murphy edited several ancillary publications, including Parents Expecting, Parents Baby, and Target the Family. She also helped to launch an ambitious book-publishing program, overseeing the highly successful book It Worked for Me, and editing The Parents Answer Book, an 800-page reference on children’s health and development. Before joining Parents, Ms. Pleshette Murphy was the editor of Good Food, executive editor of Diversion Magazine, and senior editor of Redbook.

Ms. Pleshette Murphy is a cum laude graduate of Harvard University, where she majored in psychology. She was named one of the YMCA’s Academy of Women Achievers in 1990. She chairs the board of the Greyston Family Inn, which provides housing, social services, and child care for formerly homeless families, and serves on the board of Zero to Three, which is the leading national organization dedicated to promoting the well-being of infants and toddlers.

Ms. Pleshette Murphy resides in New York City with her husband, Steven, CEO of Rodale, Inc. and their children, Madeleine and Nick.
