Ashanti

Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas, known mononymously as Ashanti, is an American singer, songwriter, and actress who rose to fame in the early 2000s. She became a major figure in the R&B and hip-hop scene, earning multiple awards and cementing her legacy in the music industry.

Ashanti received a Grammy for Best Contemporary R&B Album and multiple American Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards.

Ashanti's self-titled debut album, Ashanti, was released in 2002 and became an instant success. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling over 500,000 copies in its first week. It featured hit singles such as “Foolish,” “Happy,” and “Baby.” “Foolish,” one of her most iconic songs, spent 10 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, cementing her status as a rising star. Ashanti made history by becoming the first female artist to simultaneously hold the top two positions on the Billboard Hot 100, with her solo hit “Foolish” and her collaboration with Ja Rule on “Always on Time.”
