Considered one of the best goalkeepers in the world, Ashleigh Johnson is heading to Paris for her third Olympic Games in 2024 after helping lead Team USA to gold at the 2020 & 2016 Olympics. She is the all-time career saves leader at Princeton University. In 2016, she became the first African-American woman to make a U.S. Olympic Women’s Water Polo Team. Outside of her athletic career, Johnson supports young athletes by supporting swimming and water polo programs in her hometown of Miami.
The 6-foot, 1-inch athlete is changing what the predominantly white sport looks like and challenging the misconception that swimming is a white sport. When Johnson was told as a youth that "Black people don't swim," it was the byproduct of swimming pool discrimination that has existed for years, and yet she pressed on.
