Barry Sonnenfeld is an Emmy-winning film and television director, cinematographer, producer and author known for his distinct visual style and quirky storytelling. Born in New York City, he graduated from New York University's Graduate Institute of Film and Television and began his career as a cinematographer working on critically acclaimed films such as the Coen Brothers' "Blood Simple," "Raising Arizona," and "Miller’s Crossing." His collaboration with the Coen Brothers solidified his reputation for innovative camera work and a unique ability to visually enhance narrative storytelling. His other well-known cinematography credits include "Big," "When Harry Met Sally," and "Misery."
Transitioning to directing and producing in the early 1990s, Sonnenfeld quickly made his mark with the box-office hit "The Addams Family" and its sequel "Addams Family Values." He further cemented his success with the sci-fi comedy "Men in Black," which became a global phenomenon and spawned two sequels under his direction. His other notable works include "Get Shorty" and "Wild Wild West," TV’s "Pushing Daisies" (for which he won an Emmy) and Netflix’s Peabody Award-winning "A Series of Unfortunate Events."

His follow-up title, "Best Possible Place, Worst Possible Time," provides another fascinating perspective, blending dark humor and personal anecdotes from his experiences in the entertainment industry. Sonnenfeld also co-wrote "The First $20 Million Is Always the Hardest" with Po Bronson, a satirical exploration of the tech world.
