Beatrice Weder di Mauro is currently a professor of international economics at the Geneva Graduate Institute and holds the position of Distinguished Fellow in residence at the Emerging Markets Institute of INSEAD in Singapore. She also formerly served as a professor of economics holding the Chair of Economic Policy and International Macroeconomics at the University of Mainz in Germany for seven years.
Weder di Mauro has provided high-level policy advice to European governments, the European Commission, several international organizations, and various central banks. She is the president of the network of economists in Europe known as CEPR and has served on the German Council of Economic Experts for eight years, the highest advisory body for economic matters reporting directly to the German chancellor. She has been a member of strategic advisory groups for the Swiss and Austrian governments, advising the latter's Vice Chancellor on economic policy from 2009 to 2011, and led research projects and acted as a consultant for notable institutions including the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the European Central Bank, the Deutsche Bundesbank, and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.
Weder di Mauro received her PhD from the University of Basel and worked as an economist in the European and Fiscal Affairs department of the International Monetary Fund from 1994 to 1996. She has held visiting roles at esteemed institutions such as Harvard University, the National Bureau of Economic Research in Cambridge, MA, the United Nations University in Tokyo, and INSEAD in Singapore. She is also a research fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research in London, a senior fellow of the Asian Bureau of Finance and Economic Research in Singapore, a senior fellow of the Center for International Governance Innovation in Toronto, and a member of the Committee on International Economic and Policy Research at Brookings in Washington.
Currently, Weder di Mauro serves on the supervisory board of several organizations, including US AG, Roche, and Bombardier. She has extensively engaged in the public policy debate through her research on policy-related questions in international macroeconomics, with her recent publications focusing on reforms of the euro area, debt sustainability, cross-border banking regulation, financial integration, and the global financial architecture. She regularly speaks on topics such as economics, monetary policy, challenges for international financial markets, globalization, and economics in times of COVID, contributing to a broader understanding of these complex themes.
