Benoit Schillings

Benoit Schillings is a software engineer currently serving as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at X, where he oversees early-stage projects and teams from concept to prototype. His current areas of exploration include sustainable food production, clean and abundant energy alternatives, and envisioning a world with less pain.

With a career spanning over 30 years, Schillings has held various positions in Silicon Valley, ranging from individual contributor to CTO. He has brought his expertise to companies like Yahoo, Facebook, and Norwegian software company TrollTech. Before joining Trolltech, Schillings worked as a "Distinguished Engineer" and CTO at Openwave. From 2013 up until 2017, he led the android and iOS mobile teams at Yahoo.

Schillings was one of the lead developers of the Be Operating System (BeOS), which was first launched in 1995. During his tenure at Be Inc., he developed the file system and graphics system for BeOS, as well as programming frameworks for software developers to write software for the operating system. When he's not working on software development, Schillings is a noted amateur astronomer.

Schillings' contributions extend beyond his professional sphere. He has previously participated in the Aspen Ideas Festival, specifically in the "Moonshot Thinking Workshop" in 2019.
