Bill Self

Bill Self is the highly successful head men's basketball coach at the University of Kansas and a Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer. With a remarkable coaching career spanning 30 seasons, he boasts an overall record of 772-237 (76.5 percent) and achieved his 700th NCAA Division I victory in 2020, becoming the second-youngest coach to do so.

Self's tenure at Kansas is marked by two national championships (2008, 2022), a record 13-straight Big 12 Conference titles, and numerous deep tournament runs, including three Final Fours and eight Elite Eights. His teams have consistently excelled, with a 299-17 record on his home court at Allen Fieldhouse. Recognized as a nine-time conference coach of the year, Self has coached 13 NBA Lottery selections, including No. 1 picks Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid. He is one of only two active coaches to win multiple NCAA titles.

Self came to Kansas from the University of Illinois, where he guided the Fighting Illini to a 78-24 record over three seasons, including two Big Ten regular-season championships, a Big Ten Tournament title and three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances. Prior to his stint at Illinois, Self coached at Tulsa and at Oral Roberts, where he began his head coaching career. Additionally, Self has contributed to USA Basketball's success, leading teams to gold medals in 2015 and 2018.

Self's impact on the game is further highlighted by his numerous coaching accolades, including multiple National Coach of the Year honors. Additionally, in 2014, Self received the Wayman Tisdale Humanitarian Award by the United States Basketball Writers Association and the Mannie Jackson – Basketball’s Human Spirit Award in 2015.

A native of Edmond, Oklahoma, Self played basketball at Oklahoma State where he was a four-year letter winner from 1982 to 1985. He received his bachelor’s degree in business and a master’s degree in athletic administration, both from OSU.
