Bjarke Ingels

Bjarke Ingels founded BIG Bjarke Ingels Group in 2005 after co-founding PLOT Architects in 2001 and working at OMA in Rotterdam. His architectural approach merges careful urban planning with a commitment to enhancing the quality of life of building occupants and city dwellers. Named one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World by TIME Magazine in 2016, Ingels has designed and completed award-winning buildings globally.

Throughout his career, Ingels has been recognized for his innovative designs that incorporate sustainability and social responsibility. His notable projects include the Stavanger Concert House in Norway, Tallinn’s city hall, Copenhagen's VM Houses, and a uniquely designed waste-to-energy plant, also in Copenhagen, which is renowned for its integration of a ski slope on its roof. These projects exemplify his ability to combine functionality with environmental consciousness.

Ingels has been honored with several prestigious awards, such as Wall Street Journal's Innovator of the Year Award, the Danish Crown Prince’s Culture Prize in 2011, the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 2004, and the ULI Award for Excellence in 2009. He was appointed Knight of the French Order Arts et Lettres and the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Dannebrog in 2019 and 2018, respectively. He was also named an Honorary Fellow by the American Institute of Architects in 2020, the Royal Institute of British Architects in 2015 and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada in 2014.

Ingels has taught at Harvard University, Yale University, Columbia University, and Rice University and is an honorary professor at the Royal Academy of Arts, School of Architecture in Copenhagen. He is also the author of "HOT TO COLD: An Odyssey of Architectural Adaptation" and "Yes Is More: An Archicomic on Architectural Evolution," available in comic-book format. Fluent in Danish and English, Ingels is a frequent speaker at global forums, such as TED, WIRED, and the World Economic Forum and many more.
