Tomnitz left a promising career in finance (he worked as an analyst at UBS and KKR) to be, as he calls it, a "nomadic homebrewer" for two years. The trial and error period paid off: it allowed him and his over-30 cofounder to perfect Five Boroughs' recipes. They refurbished a 15,000 square foot plant in Brooklyn to serve as a production facility and a taproom. The company draws sales from that taproom and also through a wholesaler who distributes Five Boroughs beer across the city.
