Blitz the Ambassador Biography
Samuel Bazawule, known professionally as Blitz Bazawule and Blitz the Ambassador, is a Ghanaian filmmaker, author, visual artist, rapper, singer-songwriter, and record producer. His directing work is featured prominently in the Beyoncé Knowles-Carter project, "Black is King," for Disney+. His feature directorial debut, The Burial of Kojo, was acquired by Netflix through Ava DuVernay’s ARRAY Films. The film won Best Narrative Feature at Urbanworld Film Festival and has become a critical breakout, scoring the rare 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Blitz shot the film in Ghana with a local cast, and he composed and performed the score.
He most recently directed the musical reimagining of The Color Purple, produced by Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey, and Quincy Jones. Released in 2023, the film stars Fantasia, Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, and Colman Domingo.
Blitz’s debut novel, "The Scent of Burnt Flowers," was published by Ballentine Books in 2022. Blitz is also a Senior TED Fellow and a recipient of both the Vilcek Prize and Guggenheim 2020 Fellowship. In 2022, he founded his production company Inward Gaze.
