Brad Anderson Biography
Brad Anderson began his career with Best Buy in 1973 as a commissioned sales person for Sound of Music, which later became Best Buy.
Founder Dick Schulze recognized Anderson's retail operations expertise and named him vice president in 1981. In this role, Anderson collaborated closely with Schulze on strategic initiatives that transformed Best Buy, including transitioning to a non-commissioned store staff and adopting a warehouse-style store layout that allowed customers to browse freely.
In 1986, Anderson was promoted to executive vice president and was elected to Best Buy’s Board of Directors. He was then promoted to president and chief operating officer in April 1991, named vice chairman in 2001, and assumed the role of chief executive officer in June 2002. Under his leadership, the company expanded its workforce to over 140,000 employees across North America and China. Anderson emphasizes constant innovation to enhance customer experiences.
Anderson holds an associate degree from Waldorf College and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Denver. He serves on the boards of the Best Buy Children’s Foundation, General Mills, MN Public Radio, and Waldorf College. Additionally, he represented his role at Best Buy during Zeitgeist '08.
