Bruce Gill’s areas of focus include Organizational Development, leadership development, diversity/inclusion, social-emotional learning and training. Bruce has worked with a broad range of organizations as a training and diversity consultant. His client work includes American Express, National Institutes of Health, Ernst & Young, Mobile Oil, Lucent Technologies, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Some of his specific work includes issues pertaining to cross-cultural communication and senior leadership coaching. Bruce is currently part of a 4 person consulting team implementing a social emotional learning intervention in four (4) elementary schools and one (1) high school in the Warren, Ohio school district. As educational consultant to the Morningside Center for Teaching Social Responsibility, he and his colleagues are responsible for training and coaching teachers, administrators, and counselors in the implementation of the program entitled, “Skills for Life.” Skills for Life (SFL), consisting of two curricula (Inner Resilience and The 4 Rs) is intended to transform the learning experience of the children, the teaching experience of the teachers and the leadership of the administrators in the participating schools.
He spent five years at Kraft General Foods as an internal consultant, and also held the position of Manager of Human Resources. He designed their Executive Leadership program; and also led the development of a new leadership and management curriculum as an integral element in a cultural change initiative. As a minority member of the Organizational Development unit, he faced and overcame various challenges to his effectiveness working at very senior levels of the organization. During four years with Educators for Social Responsibility Metro (now known as Morningside Center for Teaching Social Responsibility), Bruce served as a staff developer/trainer training teachers and administrators in the principles and skills of creative conflict resolution. He managed 16 staff while running ESR’s S.T.O.P. (Schools Teaching Options for Peace) program for 30 NYC middle schools. He also served as Deputy Director for Leadership and Professional Development and was responsible for the ongoing development of the agency’s training and staff development personnel. Bruce holds a BA from Middlebury College and an MPPM from Yale University.
