Byron L. Dorgan

Byron L. Dorgan, a former U.S. Senator from North Dakota, served a distinguished 30-year career in Congress, including roles as a Congressman and Senator. He was a key figure in Senate leadership for 16 years, initially serving as Assistant Democratic Floor Leader and later as Chairman of the Democratic Policy Committee.

Throughout his tenure, Dorgan chaired various Senate committees and subcommittees critical to national policy on Energy, Aviation, Appropriations, Water Policy, and Indian Affairs, as well as on Commerce, Energy and Natural Resources, Defense, Technology, and Transportation. His broad expertise covers energy policy, economic issues, aviation, Indian issues, trade policy, healthcare, and more. He is also recognized for his contributions to the fields of Social Security and Finance Policy & Regulation.

Since retiring from the U.S. Senate in 2011, Dorgan has been active as a Senior Fellow at the Bipartisan Policy Center, focusing on energy issues and co-chairing their energy project. He also serves as a visiting professor at two universities, where he lectures on energy, economic policy, and political affairs, and holds a position as co-chair of the government relations practice for Arent Fox. Additionally, Dorgan is a senior policy advisor, sharing his extensive knowledge on renewable energy, domestic energy sources, and advocating for funding development of renewable energy sources like wind, solar energy, biofuels, as well as clean coal research.

Dorgan's literary contributions include several books: the New York Times bestseller "Take This Job and Ship It," "Reckless: How Debt, Deregulation, and Dark Money Nearly Bankrupted America (And How We Can Fix It!)," and the novel "Blowout" about America's energy crisis. These works underscore his deep understanding of how political and corporate dynamics impact the nation.

Dorgan holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Dakota and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Denver. He is married to Kim Dorgan and has three children: Scott, Brendon, and Haley.
