Carl Hobert

Carl Hobert is the author of "Raising Global IQ: Preparing Our Students for a Shrinking Planet" (Beacon Press). He holds a BA in French and Political Science cum laude, and an MA in Spanish from Middlebury College, as well as an MA in International Security Studies from the Tufts University Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. Besides directing the Global Literacy Institute at Boston University, focusing his research on global studies, foreign language, cybersecurity, service-learning, and violence prevention programs, Hobert has now taken the role of Chief Education Officer at the Boston-based Secure Communities Group (SCG). This organization is dedicated to building safer Communities of Trust through violence prevention strategies.

Hobert is also the founder of Athena Security Group, which assists communities, corporations, and governments in understanding emerging domestic and international threats and enhancing their emergency preparedness. Adding to his roles, he serves as a consultant on counterterrorism for the U.S. Department of State and Department of Homeland Security, working domestically and internationally. His linguistic skills include native fluency in English, French, and Spanish. His practical application of conflict resolution strategies has been recognized worldwide, with his work spanning four continents. This includes conducting impactful conflict resolution workshops at venues like The Out-of-Door Academy, significantly influencing both students and faculty.

In his extensive educational and consulting endeavors, Hobert has developed methods for K12 communities to conduct threat assessments and develop emergency plans, enhancing overall school climates. He provides strategies for preventing gun violence in U.S. schools by prioritizing prevention and has developed techniques to address the rising domestic terror threat, including violence assessment and cybersecurity protocol exercises. Hobert is a vocal advocate for improved K12 cybersecurity education to better prepare students for future challenges in the field. His engagement in media, including appearances on programs such as "The Hank Zone," discussing diverse topics from Korea to US Proxy Wars and Diplomacy Risks, highlights his expertise in international conflict analysis, management, and resolution.
