Carlos Capistran Biography
Carlos Capistran is head of Canada and Mexico economics at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Capistran often ranks highly in investors polls and forecasts surveys. In 2016 he ranked # 1 team for Mexico and for Latam Economics in the 2016 Institutional Investor Research Poll and # 1 in forecasting inflation in Mexico according to Bloomberg. Prior to joining the BofAML in 2011, he served as director for macroeconomic analysis at Banco de Mexico, where he also worked as a senior research economist. Capistran has published research papers on a wide range of issues in professional journals and has co-authored chapters in the Oxford Handbook of Economic Forecasting and in the book The Great Recession: Lessons for Central Bankers published by the MIT press. He continuously offers conferences and courses at central banks, universities and other venues around the world and has a strong media presence. Capistran has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) and a master’s degree and a PhD in economics from the University of California, San Diego.
