Carlos Yulo

Carlos Yulo is a Filipino artistic gymnast best known for his 2024 Olympic gold medals in the floor exercise and vault events. His journey to Olympic excellence began in 2018 when he became the first Filipino and the first male gymnast from Southeast Asia to secure a medal at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. Yulo continued to rewrite history in 2019 by winning the gold medal at the same championship, becoming the first Filipino and Southeast Asian to achieve this feat. His talent and hard work have resulted in him becoming a two-time Olympic champion, a six-time world championship medalist, a ten-time Asian champion, and a nine-time SEA Games champion.

Yulo's precision in form and the complexity of his routines, especially in the floor exercise, vault, and parallel bars, have earned him both recognition and success. His coach, Aldrin Castañeda, has guided him through his training in Tokyo, Japan. Yulo's notable achievements include winning every individual gold medal at the 2018 Philippine National Games held in Cebu City, Cebu, and finishing on the podium in every event at the Southeast Asian Games. He also won a gold medal on the floor exercise and a bronze medal on the vault at the All-Japan Senior Championships in 2020.

Yulo's success continued into 2024, where he became the first Filipino gymnast to win an Olympic gold medal at the Summer Olympics. He also won his second gold at the 2024 Olympics in the vault, making him the first multiple-time Olympic champion from the Philippines. In addition to his athletic achievements, Yulo received the GAP-KG MVP Award at the KG Management Awards in 2022, was honored with the POC Young Heroes Award at the Siklab Sports Youth Awards in 2018, and was included in Forbes' "30 Under 30 - Asia - Entertainment & Sports" list in 2020. These achievements reflect Yulo's dedication to his sport and his contributions to promoting athletic excellence in the Philippines and Southeast Asia.
