Cassandra Freeman

Cassandra “Cassie" Freeman has made her mark in everything from drama to laugh out loud comedy across film, television, and the stage. She can currently be seen starring as Aunt Viv in the critically acclaimed television series "Bel-Air", a dramatic retelling of "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" set in modern-day America. The Peacock series, based on cinematographer Morgan Cooper’s viral fan film trailer from 2019, dives deeper into the emotions, conflicts and biases that were not as deeply explored in the original, while paying homage to the show’s roots. Aunt Viv is the maternal figure to young Will, and mom to Hilary, Ashley and Carlton, but is much more layered in the post Me Too era.

Freeman starred as FBI agent Jackie Pettigrew in NBC’s drama series "The Enemy Within" alongside Morris Chestnut. She has also starred in memorable roles in TBS' "The Last O.G.," ABC's "For Life," Marvel's "Luke Cage" and the acclaimed FX series "Atlanta" (in the iconic Juneteenth episode). In film, Freeman most recently starred in David Gutnik's Materna, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. She is best known for her feature roles in Spike Lee's Inside Man opposite Denzel Washington and Chris Rock's I Think I Love My Wife.

2023 continues to be a busy one for Freeman with supporting turns in Aristotle Torres' Story Ave (SXSW 2023), Bill Oliver's Our Son (Tribeca 2023) opposite Luke Evans and Billy Porter and Rachael Holder's Fleeing opposite Andre Holland and Nicole Beharie.

Freeman has also starred off-Broadway in August Wilson’s "Seven Guitars," directed by Ruben Santiago-Hudson. Freeman attained her MFA from NYU’s Tisch School and has since taught the art of collaboration in acting and production at local universities and has guest lectured at Vassar, New York Film Academy, and Rutgers. Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, Freeman currently resides in Brooklyn, New York and is a mom to her four-year-old son Hudson.

Freeman is a founding member of Creatricity, a members-only community and tech platform that solves the biggest pain points of quality, vetted producers in the media and entertainment industry.

The platform not only connects entertainment professionals but also streamlines historically cumbersome workflow tasks. Creatricity focuses on highlighting diverse professionals in the hopes of bringing BIPOC creatives to the forefront of the industry.
