CeCé Telfer is a Jamaican-American athlete who, in June 2019, became the first openly transgender person to win an NCAA title. Telfer won the NCAA National Championship in the women's 400-meter hurdles, a significant accomplishment that led to her appearance on ESPN's "Outside the Lines" on June 13, 2019. This victory marked an important milestone in her career, and it set her on the path of becoming a U.S. Olympic hopeful for the Tokyo Olympics 2021.
In addition to her accomplishments in the 400-meter hurdles, Telfer also competes in the 60M, 100M, and 200M events. She continued to excel, qualifying for the 2021 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in the 100M and 400-meter hurdles. However, Telfer was ruled ineligible to compete in the U.S. Olympic Trials due to World Athletics' transgender eligibility rules. This decision sparked further public and media discussions about the role and rights of transgender athletes in sports. She also authored the book "Make It Count: My Fight to Become the First Transgender Olympic Runner."
