Charlie Coyle

Charlie Coyle is a professional ice hockey forward currently associated with the Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League (NHL). A career marked by significant transitions, Coyle was initially drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the first round, 28th overall, in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. In 2011, he was traded to the Minnesota Wild, where he signed a three-year entry-level contract and made his NHL debut. His tenure with the Wild was highlighted by a personal best in goals, assists, and points during the 2015–16 season, breaking the 20-goal plateau for the first time in his career. In 2017, he was placed on long-term injury reserve due to a leg injury, ending his franchise-record game streak of 316 consecutive games.

Coyle's journey with the Bruins began in 2019 after being traded from the Wild. In April 2021, he signed a significant six-year contract extension with the Bruins, underlining his value to the team. His time with the Bruins has been studded with achievements, including his first career NHL hat-trick against the New York Islanders in November 2023. In recognition of his contributions to the team, he was named one of the Alternate Captains of the Bruins in 2020. Coyle also received several awards with the Bruins, including the Seventh Player Award in 2020, the John P. Bucyk Award in 2021, and the Eddie Shore Award in 2023.

Coyle has represented the United States in international competitions, winning a bronze medal at both the 2011 World Junior Championships and the 2015 World Championships. In addition to his NHL and international accomplishments, Coyle has received numerous awards earlier in his career. He was named the EJHL Rookie of the Year in 2010, the Hockey East Rookie of the Year in 2011, and was part of the Hockey East All-Rookie Team in the same year. In 2012, Coyle was a President's Cup champion with the QMJHL's Saint John Sea Dogs and received the Guy Lafleur Trophy.
