Cheryl Pegus

Dr. Cheryl Pegus M.D., M.P.H is a board-certified physician with subspecialty training in cardiology and Walmart’s Vice President of Health & Wellness. In this role, Cheryl will develop Walmart’s bold healthcare vision, leading Health & Wellness across the Walmart enterprise.

Previously she was the President of Consumer Solutions and Chief Medical Officer at Cambia Health Solutions. There she was responsible for clinical and consumer strategy to increase access to affordable, equitable care. She has held roles as Chief Medical Officer and Head of Product Development for other national health systems and pharmacy retailers including Pfizer, Aetna and Walgreens. Pegus has a demonstrated track record of launching innovative healthcare products which enable organizations to capture and maintain market share. Pegus has held board member positions for private equity and public healthcare companies where she contributes to the development of strategic plans, business cases and operational build-outs for revenue targets. Additionally, Pegus is co-founder of A New Beat, an organization dedicated to improving the cardiovascular health and careers of women and under-represented minorities. She is on the board of the American Heart Association and is the past-Chair of the Association of Black Cardiologists. She has been recognized as a leader in pragmatically addressing gaps in care and cost across underserved populations utilizing data-driven, innovative solutions to improve health and care fragmentation.

Pegus received an M.P.H. from Columbia University School of Public Health, an M.D. from Cornell University Medical College and completed her internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at New York Hospital-Cornell. She has published many peer-reviewed studies, presented at national and international conferences, been featured in national news outlets and has also published the healthy cookbook series, Everyone Eats.
