Chuck Leavell

Chuck Leavell is a multi-faceted individual known for his significant contributions to music, environmental advocacy, and literature. Leavell's remarkable career spans over 40 years, during which he has worked with iconic musicians such as Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, George Harrison, and John Mayer. A hallmark of his storied career began when he joined the Allman Brothers Band in 1972, contributing to the landmark album "Brothers and Sisters" which features classics like "Ramblin' Man" and "Jessica." Following the Allman Brothers Band, he founded the rock/jazz/blues fusion group Sea Level, which released five critically acclaimed albums in the late 1970s.

Leavell’s musical journey continued as a vital member of The Rolling Stones since 1982, with his work described by Keith Richards as essential for maintaining the band's continuity. His influence is also noted in his solo projects, including the holiday album "What's In That Bag?" released in 1999, and the acclaimed "Forever Blue: Solo Piano," which showcases a blend of original compositions and classic songs. In 2007, he embarked on the "Green Leaves and Blue Notes" tour in Europe, further solidifying his reputation as a distinguished pianist.

Beyond his musical endeavors, Leavell is a dedicated conservationist and a respected author. He co-founded The Mother Nature Network, a leading environmental website, emphasizing his commitment to environmental issues. His literary contributions include "Forever Green: The History and Hope of the American Forest" and "Growing a Better America: Smart, Strong and Sustainable," where he explores the balance between growth and environmental sustainability. These efforts in environmental advocacy have led him to Washington, D.C., where he meets with officials to promote sound forestry management practices. Together with his wife, Rose Lane, they were recognized as National Outstanding Tree Farmers of the Year in 1999 for their management of Charlane Plantation in Macon, Georgia.
