Claire Williams

Claire Williams is a prominent figure in the history of British motorsports. Her career in Formula One racing began after her graduation from Newcastle University in 1999 with a degree in politics. She started her professional journey as a press officer for the Silverstone racing circuit, and in 2002, she stepped into the world of Formula One when she joined the Williams F1 team as a Communications Officer. Her leadership abilities quickly became apparent, and by 2010, she had ascended to the position of Head of Communications. In 2011, Williams assumed the role of Head of Investor Relations and was subsequently promoted to Director of Marketing & Communications in 2012.

Williams' significant contribution to Formula One racing was formally recognized in March 2013 when she was appointed as the deputy team principal of the Williams F1 racing team. As one of only two women to have ever managed teams in Formula One, Williams led the team to embrace impactful initiatives, including guiding students into engineering careers and supporting F1's sustainability strategy. She was a keen advocate for greater diversity and inclusion within her team and across the sport. Her dedication and services to Formula One racing were acknowledged when she was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2016 Birthday Honours. She announced her resignation from her position as deputy team principal after the 2020 Italian Grand Prix.

After her tenure with the Williams F1 team, Williams became a brand ambassador for WAE Technologies in 2023. She has continued to influence the sport and its associated fields, particularly as a vocal advocate for gender equality in Formula One. Alongside her advocacy work, Williams serves as the vice president of the Spinal Injuries Association, a role she took on in memory of her father, Frank Williams, who was paralyzed after an accident in 1986. She has been widely recognized for her input and insights, with features in numerous publications such as The Observer, The Guardian, and The Telegraph, discussing Formula One's contribution to the UK economy. Additionally, her involvement in the F1 in Schools program and her launch of a new engineering academy for Williams demonstrates her commitment to education and fostering the next generation of leaders in the industry.
