Cody Allen, a former professional baseball relief pitcher, had a notable career in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 2012 to 2019. He began his career with the Cleveland Indians in 2012, making his MLB debut on July 20 of that year. After a successful season, he was named the Cleveland Indians' Minor League Pitcher of the Year. Allen's skills were recognized not only within his team but also on a national scale - Baseball America ranked him as the 5th-best prospect in the Indians organization and the 13th-best prospect in the International League.
Allen's career with the Cleveland Indians was marked by significant achievements, including his record-setting 141 career saves by July 2018, surpassing Bob Wickman's previous record. His role as a reliable closer was particularly highlighted during the World Series. After his tenure with the Indians, Allen signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Angels in 2019. He also held minor league contracts with the Minnesota Twins, Texas Rangers, and Chicago Cubs.
Allen's reputation as a talented pitcher was solidified by his appearances on leaderboards for saves in Major League Baseball. He announced his retirement from professional baseball on February 17, 2021.
