Constance Wu

Constance Tianming Wu is an American actress, widely recognized for her leading role as Jessica Huang in the ABC comedy series "Fresh Off the Boat." This breakthrough role earned her four nominations for the Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series, tying her with Amy Poehler as the second most nominated actress in the category. Additionally, her performance in "Fresh Off the Boat" resulted in nominations for two TCA Awards. Wu's talent and influence were recognized globally when she was included on Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2017.

Transitioning from stage and independent movies in New York, Wu made her screen debut with a supporting role in "Stephanie Daley." She later appeared in episodes of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," "Torchwood," and "Covert Affairs," and also had a recurring role as Laudine Lee on the ABC soap opera "One Life to Live" in 2007. Moving to Los Angeles in 2010, she was cast in "Sound of My Voice," directed by Brit Marling. Since 2012, Wu has starred in the critically acclaimed web series "EastSiders," earning two Indie Series Award nominations for her performance in 2014 and 2016.

An active advocate for Chinese representation in U.S. media, Wu has worked to bring more diversity into the film industry. She supports Miry's List, an organization that provides essential kits to newly arrived immigrants and refugee families in Southern California. Wu has shared her experiences of being denied roles due to her racial background and has been a vocal critic of Hollywood whitewashing. She has also spoken out about mental health issues and her experiences with cyberbullying. In 2022, Wu published her memoir, "Making a Scene," where she offers more personal insights into her life and career.
