Courtney B. Vance

From studying history at Harvard to making history in Hollywood, Courtney B. Vance has carefully crafted a career that showcases his passion, talent, and intellect. After earning his Master of Fine Arts from Yale School of Drama—where he met his future wife, actress Angela Bassett—Vance made a significant impact on Broadway in the 1980s. His Broadway debut in August Wilson's "Fences" earned him a Tony Award nomination, the Theater World Award, and the Clarence Derwent Award. He received his second Tony nomination for his role in John Guare's "Six Degrees of Separation" alongside Stockard Channing and won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his performance in Nora Ephron’s "Lucky Guy." His work in Athol Fugard’s "My Children! My Africa!" also earned him an Obie Award.

In film and television, Vance's versatility is evident. He portrayed the formidable Johnnie Cochran in FX’s "American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson," a role that garnered him a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series. He is also recognized for his five-year run as A.D.A. Ron Carver in NBC's "Law & Order: Criminal Intent." Vance made his film debut in "Hamburger Hill," and his filmography includes impactful roles in "The Hunt for Red October," "The Preacher’s Wife," "Space Cowboys," "The Adventures of Huck Finn," "The Tuskegee Airmen," "The Photograph," "The Mummy," "Isle of Dogs," "Hurricane Season," and "Joyful Noise."

Beyond his dramatic achievements, Vance has taken leadership roles behind the scenes, advocating for greater diversity in Hollywood and producing content that reflects this commitment.
