Cynthia G. Wagner

Cynthia G. Wagner began her career at the World Future Society in 1981 after receiving a master’s degree in communications/magazine journalism from Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. Starting out as an editorial assistant for THE FUTURIST, she also contributed numerous brief book reviews to the Society’s professional networking journal, The World Future Society Bulletin.

In 1992, Cindy took the helm as THE FUTURIST’s managing editor, selecting and developing articles and news stories and overseeing the writing, editing, design, and production of each issue. In January 2011, she succeeded Edward Cornish as editor.

In 2000, she helped launch the Society’s free monthly electronic newsletter, FUTURIST UPDATE, as a supplement to the magazine; she was its editor until 2010 and continues to contribute “news and previews from the World Future Society” in each issue.

She also served as the editor of several of the World Future Society’s conference volumes—anthologies of scholarly essays that provided the “intellectual infrastructure” for the meetings.

In 2007, venturing into multimedia, she also added videography and video editing into her portfolio of communications skills, producing the popular annual Outlook Top 10 Forecasts videos on YouTube, as well as editing videos and photos from the conferences.

In 2010, she teamed with FUTURIST deputy editor Patrick Tucker to present the first Futurist Writers Workshop as a preconference Master Course at WorldFuture 2010 in Boston, which was repeated in Toronto (2012) and Orlando (2014) with high reviews from participants.
