Dan Wilson

Dan Wilson is a former professional baseball player who played as a catcher in Major League Baseball from 1992 through 2005. He is best remembered for his time with the Seattle Mariners, where he spent 12 out of his 14 seasons after beginning his professional career with the Cincinnati Reds. In 1996, Wilson earned an All-Star selection and was widely regarded for his defensive skills. When he retired in 2005, Wilson held the American League record for career fielding percentage by a catcher, a testament to his exceptional defensive acumen.

After retiring as a player, Wilson turned his attention to broadcasting and, since 2011, has served as a color commentator for Seattle Mariners baseball games on Root Sports. Additionally, in 2013, Wilson assumed the role of Minor League Catching Coordinator for the Mariners. Wilson's skills and contributions were further recognized in 2012 when he was inducted into the Seattle Mariners Hall of Fame along with his former battery mate, Randy Johnson. Before his professional journey, Wilson made a name for himself in his hometown of Barrington, Illinois, by leading his team to a 3rd-place finish in the 1981 Little League World Series. Following this, he played college baseball at the University of Minnesota and was selected in the first round, seventh overall, by the Cincinnati Reds in the 1990 MLB draft.

In 2024, Wilson took on a new role within the Seattle Mariners organization, transitioning from his previous position as special assignment coordinator to assume the role of manager. His career batting average was .262, with a record of 88 home runs and 519 runs batted in during his time in the Major League. Wilson's journey from being a notable player to an insightful commentator and effective manager illustrates his enduring dedication to the sport of baseball.
