Dana Cowin

Dana Cowan is an award-winning editor, author, podcast host and convener who creates change through food, gathering, conversation and community. She is the founder of Progressive Hedonist, a resource and guide for gathering and eating in ways that help heal the planet and ourselves.

During her 21 years as Editor in Chief of Food & Wine Magazine, Cowin grew from a non-cook and mildly curious eater into an avid believer in the power of food to bring joy, connection and transformation. Under her leadership, Food & Wine became a game-changing publication that showcased the lifestyle of chefs, winemakers, food artisans and more, celebrating discovery, innovation and deliciousness.

Before Progressive Hedonist, Cowin founded Speaking Broadly, an independent media company which featured a podcast, zine and events series highlighting visionary women at the intersection of creativity, sustainability and food. Through Speaking Broadly's consultancy, Cowin coached creatives and advised growing companies on food and storytelling.

A sought-after public speaker, Cowin has been a judge on "Top Chef" and "Beat Bobby Flay" as well as a presenter at SXSW, the Welcome Conference, TEDx Talk, and many other events.

Cowin has a longstanding commitment to empowering people in marginalized communities through improving access to food and education. She is on the board of Food Education Fund and Hot Bread Kitchen, as well as the Food Council of City Harvest and God’s Love We Deliver.
