Dan Glickman is a recognized leader in agriculture, nutrition, hunger, bipartisan politics, and public policy, with an extensive career spanning federal government, advocacy, private sector, and non-profit sectors.
Glickman is currently a senior counselor and chair of the International Advisory Board at APCO Worldwide. He is a distinguished fellow in Global Food and Agriculture at The Chicago Council on Global Affairs and serves as an adjunct professor at Tufts University’s Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy. Additionally, he is a senior fellow at the Bipartisan Policy Center, an organization dedicated to fostering bipartisanship in Washington, D.C. Glickman also holds roles as a strategic advisor and counselor at The Russell Group.
In 2021, Glickman published his memoir "Laughing at Myself: My Education in Congress, on the Farm, and at the Movies" through the University of Kansas Press. His writing shares insights from his varied professional experiences.
Glickman has had a substantial impact on U.S. legislative processes, particularly through his role as vice president of the Aspen Institute and executive director of its Congressional Program, positions he held until early 2021. This program focuses on public policy education and promoting civility among members of the U.S. Congress. He also actively supports several advisory boards including those for Francis Renewable Energy and Good Meat, a subsidiary of Eat Just.
Previously, Glickman served as the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture from March 1995 until January 2001 during the Clinton Administration. In this role, he oversaw a range of critical areas including farm and conservation programs, food safety, and global trade in agriculture. Before his tenure as Secretary, he represented the 4th Congressional District of Kansas in the U.S. House of Representatives for 18 years, where he held significant committee positions and was known for his expertise in agriculture and general aviation policy.
Glickman also led the Motion Picture Association of America, Inc. (MPAA) as chairman from 2004 to 2010 and previously directed the Harvard Kennedy School Institute of Politics. His early career included roles such as president of the Wichita, Kansas School Board, partner in a law firm, and trial attorney at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
He holds a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Michigan and a J.D. from The George Washington University. Glickman has been honored with an honorary Doctor of Philosophy from Kansas State University and an honorary Doctor of Laws from The George Washington University Law School. He is also a member of prestigious organizations including the Council on Foreign Relations and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
