Daniel Jacobson Biography
Daniel Jacobson directs the Freedom and Flourishing Project. He works on a range of topics in ethics, moral psychology, freedom of speech, aesthetics, and the moral and political of John Stuart Mill. His work has appeared in The Philosophical Review, Ethics, and Philosophy & Public Affairs, among many other venues; and his essay, “Utilitarianism without Consequentialism: The Case of John Stuart Mill,” was chosen by The Philosophers’ Annual as one of the ten best philosophy articles of 2008. Jacobson was previously director of The Science of Ethics, a three-year project in moral psychology funded by a grant from the John Templeton Foundation. He has held fellowships from the Princeton University Center for Human Values, the American Council of Learned Societies, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. He received his B.A. from Yale University and his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
