Daniel Kaluuya

Daniel Kaluuya is an Academy Award-winning British and Ugandan actor and screenwriter who has garnered international acclaim for his powerful performances across film, television, and theater.

Kaluuya first gained recognition for his work on the British TV series "Skins," where he not only acted but also contributed as a writer. After "Skins," Kaluuya appeared as a guest star in many established series such as "Silent Witness," the Doctor Who special "Planet of the Dead" and "Lewis." He has also appeared in the sketch shows "That Mitchell and Webb Look" and "Harry and Paul." Additionally, Kaluuya voiced a character in the BBC Radio 4 sitcom "Sneakiepeeks."

In 2009, he became a regular cast member in the ITV comedy "FM" as amateur DJ–Radio Runner "Ades" and also as Michael "Tea Leaf" Fry in the dark BBC comedy "Psychoville." In 2010, Kaluuya played the lead role in Roy Williams' "Sucker Punch" at the Royal Court Theatre in London. Both the play and Kaluuya won rave reviews and he won both the Evening Standard Award and Critics' Circle Theatre Award for Outstanding Newcomer.

Although Kaluuya went on to play a number of roles in film and tv,
his breakout role came in 2017 with Jordan Peele’s critically acclaimed horror film "Get Out," in which he played Chris Washington, a young Black man who uncovers a sinister secret while visiting his white girlfriend’s family. For that role, Kaluuya was nominated for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award and a BAFTA Award for Best Actor.

Kaluuya has since continued to build a diverse filmography. He starred as W’Kabi in the Marvel blockbuster "Black Panther" and played a lead role in "Widows," a heist thriller directed by Steve McQueen. His performance as Fred Hampton, the charismatic Black Panther leader in "Judas and the Black Messiah" earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. In 2022, Kaluuya teamed up again with Peele for "Nope," a sci-fi horror film that blended elements of thriller and social satire. He will soon be heard in "Spider-man: Beyond the Spider-Verse," reprising his voice role of Hobart "Hobie" Brown/Spider-Punk from "Spider-man: Across the Spider-Verse."
