Daniel Loeb

Daniel Loeb is an American investor, hedge fund manager, and philanthropist. Loeb founded Third Point LLC in 1995 and leads portfolio management, risk management and research activities.

Before founding Third Point, Daniel Loeb worked on both the buy and the sell sides for over a decade, gaining dedicated experience in distressed debt, high-yield bond sales, risk arbitrage and private investments. Immediately before starting Third Point, he was Vice-President of high-yield bond sales at Citigroup.

Previously, Daniel Loeb was a Senior Vice-President in the distressed debt department at Jefferies & Co., where he worked as a bankruptcy analyst, bank loan trader and distressed securities salesman. Before Jefferies, Daniel was a risk arbitrage Analyst at Lafer Equity Investors. He began his career as an Associate in private equity at Warburg Pincus.

Dan Loeb is a Trustee of the United States Olympic Committee, Mt. Sinai Hospital, the Manhattan Institute, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. He is a Member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the American Enterprise Institute’s National Council. Daniel Loeb is also the Chairman of the Board of Success Academies Charter Schools. Since 2004, he has been a Trustee of Prep for Prep, a NYC organization that prepares underprivileged children to attend competitive independent schools. Last year, Dan Loeb launched a new initiative with Paul Singer and the Human Rights Campaign, America’s largest LGBT civil rights organization, designed to protect LGBT rights globally in the face of increasing discrimination.

Daniel Loeb graduated from Columbia University with an A.B. in economics in 1983. He has endowed the Daniel S. Loeb Scholarship for undergraduate study there and received Columbia’s John Jay Award for distinguished professional achievement.
