Daryl Johnston

Daryl "Moose" Johnston is a former National Football League (NFL) fullback, three-time Super Bowl champion, and accomplished broadcaster known for his leadership both on and off the field. Born in Youngstown, New York, Johnston rose to prominence as a standout football player at Syracuse University, where he earned All-American honors and helped lead the Orange to a 1988 Sugar Bowl victory. His hard-nosed playing style and unrelenting work ethic caught the attention of NFL scouts, and he was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the second round of the 1989 NFL Draft.

Johnston spent his entire 11-year NFL career with the Cowboys, from 1989 to 1999, serving as a key contributor to one of the most dominant teams in league history. As a fullback, Johnston's primary role was blocking for Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith, who credited Johnston as instrumental in his success. Despite playing a position that often goes unnoticed, Johnston earned two Pro Bowl selections and became the first fullback in NFL history to be included in the Pro Bowl ballot.

Affectionately nicknamed "Moose" for his imposing 6'2", 242-pound frame, Johnston was beloved by teammates and fans alike for his toughness and selflessness. He played an integral role in the Cowboys' Super Bowl victories in 1992, 1993, and 1995, helping the team establish a dynasty under head coach Jimmy Johnson. Johnston retired after the 1999 season, having appeared in 149 games and recorded 46 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns, and 2,227 receiving yards.

Following his playing career, Johnston transitioned into broadcasting, joining FOX Sports in 2001 as an NFL analyst, and served in executive roles in minor league football. He serves as the United Football League's (UFL) Executive Vice President of Football Operations for the newly merged league, a role he undertook beginning with the 2024 season.

Off the field, Johnston is deeply involved in charitable work, particularly supporting children and families in need.
