David Gaschen

Internationally renowned vocalist and stage performer David Gaschen remains best known for the years he devoted to the title character in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera," a role he performed well over 1300 times worldwide.

Gaschen graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in vocal performance. After moving to Chicago to begin his professional career, he performed in more than 20 musical plays, including playing the leading roles in "The Pirates of Penzance" and "The Student Prince" for Light Opera Works (now Music Theater Works). He was first cast as a Phantom alternate in the original Swiss production of "The Phantom of the Opera" in Basel, Switzerland. At the age of 26, Gaschen was the youngest Phantom to be cast.

After a few years performing in Switzerland, Gaschen joined the German production in Hamburg, Germany, eventually performing the role of the Phantom well over 1,000 times. He made his Broadway debut in the title role in 1999.

Post-"Phantom of the Opera," Gaschen has recorded multiple albums, including his self-titled album; a solo album titled "Let Me Sing and I’m Happy"; and "David Gaschen: A Celebration of Christmas." He also recorded with Howard McGillin, Hugh Panaro, and Michael Crawford on the album "Broadway’s Fabulous Phantoms." He has made vocal guest appearances with orchestras including the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, Allen Philharmonic Orchestra, and The Dallas Symphony Orchestra, among others.

Gaschen is the Artist-in-Residence at Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, Texas, where he also runs a voice studio. He is passionate about supporting the arts in his community as well as at his alma mater, where he was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award from Texas Tech's School of Visual and Performing Arts. Gaschen has also been inducted onto the West Texas Walk of Fame.
